A British Lord takes issue with the Church of England's main man, who happens to be Anglicanism's main man as well. He says,
Who am I to criticise the Archbishop of Canterbury on the matters of theology, doctrine or what the scriptures mean? [...]And oh how they have been leaving. The issue of ordaining non-celibate gay & lesbian priests has fractured the Worldwide Communion of the Anglican body ...
I am, however, a 'fellow traveller' and it is fellow travellers, whether of political parties or churches, whose opinions should be listened to most carefully by the powers that be. If the politicians or bishops offer confident, reasonable leadership, we follow them. If they look lost, confused and out of touch, we leave in droves.There is, of course, nothing new about homosexuality or homosexual priests and I suspect that most people these days will say 'so what?'I'll not waste your time with theological nit-picking here, but our "fellow traveler" does go on to make several excellent points.
But the Church of England still has a role to play in upholding the standards and beliefs which have shaped the society in which we live. And for the leader of that institution to appear confused by his moral standpoint is surely disastrous.I fear that the leaking of Dr Williams' letters [revealing a bifurcated theology on the issue], even if they are from eight years ago, will give more comfort to those who see the church as a leftover from the past than to those who would like to see it stand up boldly for the values on which it was built. For a while, the traditionalists will rally ... but the fellow travellers will drift away leaderless, with neither a church nor a political party prepared to champion their views and beliefs.And we see it in the visible church everywhere; the Emergents and the Seekers being two not so wonderful examples.So who is left? Watch out for the challenge from the mosques. An Islam with a modern face will soon begin to present itself as the natural home for those who long for moral certainty and a new sense of discipline within society. [...]The task for the imams will be to exploit the fatal weakness of the multicultural society and replace a Christian church that has lost its sense of history and direction with a Mosque that has a strong, ingrained sense of both.Once again I am led to prophetic implications ... what about you?

ANGLICAN ANSWER: Pope Benedict has it right!
Pope Benedict has sent a message to the spiritual head of the Anglican Communion, the Archbishop of Canterbury, urging the hundreds of bishops gathered for a global meeting to find the solution to their divisions in God’s Word.Going to be a little hard to do since 25% of them stayed home; but the Catholic Pontiff has it right ...“The words and the message of Christ are what offer the real contribution to Lambeth and only in being faithful to the message … and God’s words can we find a mature way … to find a road together,” said the Pope in his message to Dr. Rowan Williams this week.I like this Pope, actually more than the one before ... just don't like their soteriology.

When 25% of a royal family's princes stay away from a once each century family reunion ... you've got a regal knot in your imperial breeches!Church officials said that 230 of the 880 bishops in the Anglican worldwide communion were staying away from the Lambeth conference being staged in the English cathedral city of Canterbury, spiritual home of the deeply divided church.Referring to Gene Robinson, the queer Bishop from New England, who was forced to stay away from Lambeth, and remains the catalytic issue for the boycott, Reuters said ...Robinson, whose decision to be open about his homosexuality provoked so much Anglican angst, agreed it was time for the church to stop being so self-obsessed.How magnanimous!
"With young men knifing each other in the streets of London [a reference to the "growing knife" culture of the capital city] and a billion or more people going through life on less than a dollar a day, what a shame , what a waste it is for the Anglican communion to be tearing itself apart over two men or two women who want to make a Christian family together," he told Reuters.
Your denomination has just certified you a heretic in the least offensive and most unofficial-official way possible (like a director of a corporation being excluded from the firm's annual meeting by the other directors) and you wax eloquent about their corporate failure to stop English violence and global poverty. Not a word about the cause of it all: your personal failure.
Simultaneously, you reveal an extremely low opinion of Scripture's infallibility and inspiration, dissing (by extension) the Creator of the Living Word, thus disparaging the nature and magnitude of it, and ignoring two thousand years of biblical scholarship, as-well-as the collective wisdom of the men and women who were motivated to that scholarship.
Wow! What arrogance!
Apparently Robinson and the Reuters reporter did combine to forecast one likely outcome ...... it will end with a typically fudged Anglican consensus, [the Gay cleric] said "It will drive the press crazy. There will be no resolutions, no proclamations, no lines drawn in the sand."And this is a once in a century conference ... ho-boy! Forgive us all sweet Jesus, Your heart must be heavy these days.

ANGLICAN ANGST: Somehow I knew this was coming!
The once late great Anglican Church takes another blow for its heresy, apostasy, and debauchery ... only this time it is from one of its own, one who is known as a mountain of theological righteousness ... J. I. Packer.I can only, and sadly, grieve over this event ... it truly marks a turning point for the coming split between conservative and heretical Anglicans.One of the world's most famous evangelical theologians quit the Anglican Church of Canada this week because he believes many of its bishops are "arguably heretical" for adhering to "poisonous liberalism."
James (J.I.) Packer, whom Time magazine recently named as one of the planet's 25 most influential evangelicals, said he hesitated before using the harsh terms to describe the Anglican bishops, but believed he must do so in the name of truth.
Vancouver-based Packer, who has sold more than four million copies of his many books, said he and 10 other B.C. Anglican clergy left the national denomination this week to operate under the authority of a South American Anglican archbishop because they felt they were being "starved out and worn down." ANGLICAN ANGST: Statement by Jefferts Schori will have little eternal impact!
A just-concluded meeting of conservative church leaders in the worldwide Anglican Communion will have little lasting impact, the head of the Episcopal Church, the faith's U.S. branch, said on Monday.
"Much of the Anglican world must be lamenting the latest emission" from the Global Anglican Future Conference issued on on Sunday in Jerusalem, said Katharine Jefferts Schori, presiding bishop of the Episcopal Church.So too spoke Phillip Franklin, White Star Line Vice President, the day prior to the maiden launch of the Titanic:

ANGLICAN ANGST: Rowan Williams can't see the forest or the trees!
Not much difference between the two in many respects; both are/were mouthpieces for once great but failed human institutions, both have spoken absurdly on geo-social issues, and both are/were not known for being the brightest bulbs in the room.
Williams, in a recent interview with a Muslim propaganda machine, waxed eloquently (as Brit intellectuals are fond of doing ... bless them) about world affairs ...How is it a man of his experience and intelligence cannot see the specific application of his own words to the global actions of Muslim extremists since pre-1948 times? Is he unaware that his own nation has been involved it the Iraq War since its inception? Duh!“We have only one global hegemonic power,” he said according to London’s Telegraph newspaper. “It is not accumulating territory: it is trying to accumulate influence and control. That’s not working.[CRIB emphasis]
“It is one thing to take over a territory and then pour energy and resources in to administering it and normalizing it. Rightly or wrongly, that’s what the British Empire did in India, for example,” added Williams, who has been a long-time critic of the war in Iraq.
“It is another thing to go in on the assumption that a quick burst of violent action will somehow clear the decks and that you can move on and other people will put it back together – Iraq, for example.”
Is Williams saying that what is good for the goose is verboten for the gander? Both can be right, or both wrong, in their choice of methodologies - but one cannot be wrong and the other right!

ANGLICAN ANGST: Show Me the Money!
It has been a while since I've written on the sad state of The Episcopal Church (TEC; formerly ECUSA) in the states; things where going downhill so fast it became depressing.Inspired by their achievements during the past four to five decades, liberal-leftist Episcopalian leaders pushed their heretical agenda to the point of almost bringing the entire worldwide Anglican Communion down.
However, with the righteous prelates of the Global South making inroads in the wicked North, more and more conservative voices are being heard in the TEC's street. One of the more interesting (in terms of where it will lead) is the combined voice of four retired Episcopal bishops, asking to know where the money is coming from to support the major litigation by church leaders against the conservatives in the US.
David Virtue of VirtueOnline reports on this ...For months now VirtueOnline has been asking the question, where is the money coming from to fund the massive lawsuits by the Episcopal Church and liberal dioceses' against orthodox parishes, priests and laity?[UPDATE: The Washington Times has enter the storyline with their report here; HT: VirtueOnline]
Now four retired bishops have asked the Executive Council of the Episcopal Church that very same question. In an open letter to the Executive Council of the Episcopal Church, the Rt. Rev. Maurice M. Benitez, Bishop of Texas, Retired; the Rt. Rev. C.F. Allison, Bishop of South Carolina, Retired; the Rt. Rev. Alex D. Dickson, Bishop of West Tennessee, Retired; and the Rt. Rev. William C. Wantland, Bishop of Eau Claire, Retired, wrote the national church asking where the money is coming from to conduct this litigation.
What is interesting to me is that TEC income has been in serious decline in recent years and programs have been cut or reduced as a result.
Any member of a any denomination where program cuts have been made as a result of giving reductions would rightfully be concerned. Even more so, if denominational funds were being clearly expended but unreported. In their letter the four bishops write ..."We ask you, our Executive Council, to make a public report of how much money the Episcopal Church has spent in recent years on court costs and attorney fees in these extensive litigations. In what budget is it accounted for? Has any income from trust funds been used to support these litigations? How much and from which funds?Go over to VirtueOnline to read the details ... but be ready to see this blow up in the near future. The money is coming from somewhere and Episcopalians in the USA have a right to be told the source!
"How much compensation has the law firm of the Episcopal Church's chancellor, David Beers, received, for servicing this litigation? An open and transparent disclosure is crucially important to avoid speculation, rumors and consequent distrust of the Episcopal Church."
