A recent Newsweek poll found that the majority of Americans believe in God's Christmas miracle; but not all of the results are that encouraging. The poll reported that almost 80 percent believe the Bible with regards to the virgin birth; in fact, more than two-thirds believe the whole account of Christmas, including the angelic proclamations to Mary, Joseph, and the shepherds.
The poll questioned people further concerning their beliefs about Jesus Himself. Over 90 per-cent said they believe Jesus actually lived, almost the same amount (89 percent) said Jesus is God or the Son of God. But, only half (52 percent) said Jesus will return as He promised. Likewise, biblical inerrancy is not highly believed, just 55 percent said every word in the Bible is true. [Agape Press, 16 Dec 2004]
A Chinese Christian woman was sharing her beliefs with one of her villages leading men, a man who was highly respected for his wisdom. After politely hearing her out the elderly gentleman said, "My woman, I know you believe what you are saying about this Jesus is very important but leave Him out. I don't want to hear about this Jesus, I want to hear about your God!" She responded, "My good sir, how would I know to tell you anything about my God apart from Jesus."
This is the problem with the respondents in the poll above. How would they know what to believe about the Christmas miracle, or the angelic pronouncements, or Jesus and His life and relationships apart from the Bible. So let me ask you, if you say you believe what you've read in the Bible but don't believe the Bible is accurate who do you think will be interested in your opinion?
