Jeff Emanuel has put a post up as a follow-on to a Washington Times piece on the positive side of the Bush-Cheney legacy.Whatever problems and disagreements we all may have with President Bush (and I have more than my share, starting with '04-'06 Iraq, '07 Israel, '07-'08 North Korea and Iran, TARP, immigration, NCLB, the Auto Bailout, and many, many more), there's one fact which all who are not blinded by the most irrational form of Bush Derangement Syndrome can agree on: a very good man is leaving the White House in just under a month.I've my problems with the man too, but bottom-line I'd love to call him friend.

SHINSEKI: Maybe not one of Bush 43's best decisions!
There is a need for context and content in the Shinseki stories floating around, not to mention truthfulness.
Some in the liberal media are gleefully re-telling the 2003 story of the now famous general's senate testimony regarding troop levels in Iraq and his subsequent retirement.
But the truth of the matter, based solely on hindsight, is that his advice might have been helpful.
Clearly, there's an element of Bush rebuke in the appointment but what departing president has every not been symbolically rebuked by at least one of his successor's decisions?

BAILOUT: Say what?
Obama administration to control half the bailout!
P. T. Barnum was right, "There were 47 million suckers born in the USA" ... or something like that! And they're all Republicans.
It's bad enough the Dems will bailout the the automakers (a Dem-union voter stronghold), in Michigan (a Dem-state voter stronghold), and their extended support industries (mostly unionized suppliers and service organizations in the Great Lakes region who traditionally vote Democratic) but to let a Dem President/former community organizer/ACORN buddy/leftist/partisan control 350 billion of the taxpayers money is outrageous.
Aaaaarrrrrggggghhhhh!!!!!... congressional officials said Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson passed the word over the weekend that he intends to leave $350 billion untouched when the administration leaves office on Jan. 20. That would mean the incoming Obama administration would decide whether and how the funds should be spent. [FOX News]Tell me something: the bailout money comes from all 57 states, RIGHT? All taxpayers regardless of state, party, amount, ethnicity, religion, and personal sexual orientation, RIGHT? So how come one party and a single industry (one not in the original bailout bill) will have so much coming their way?
I sure hope someone saw this coming and got a watchdog busy monitoring an audit trail?

OPINION: Ignore your base in politics at your own peril!
In the same way Michael Malone is ashamed of his present association with Journalism [h/t News Busters], I'm ashamed of my present association with and support of another major American institution ... the GOP and its Neo-cons!Like the Russian Roulette player who thought you had to remove one bullet rather than the other five, the shakers and movers of the Grand Ole Party of the Republic have managed to blow their brains out, but haven't a clue why.
The situation the conservative base now finds itself in (an impending Super Majority) should never have happened. These idiots went into government service to change politics and instead were themselves changed by it.
As Limbaugh continues to remind us, Reagan was and is revered because he appealed to the conservative base across all party lines, races, politics, ethnicities, religions, and cultures. And he did it lightheartedly and with a spring in his step and a smile on his face. The Gipper was and is the personification of an ideal that appeals to all conservative Americans.
The reason the liberals in America are winning is that their leadership, unlike ours, know their base and appeal to it -60s radicals, socialists, middle-aged flower-children, neo-commies, victims of "the system," black-racists, relativists, iconoclasts, cultural demagogs, closet anarchists, anti-American Americans, east and west coast snobs and elitists, the MSM, protesters, rebels, the unemployed and unemployable, immigrants, ethnic minorities, entitlists, the uneducated, the ill-informed, the ignorant, druggies, unions and union workers, special interest groups, and anyone who is willing to sell his soul and his country for a price.Barack Obama is a perfect fit for the liberal base; John McCain was and is not even a modest fit for the conservative base ... it's a shame Sarah Palin is not at the head of the ticket. If the MSM and the federal super majority in DC do not fix it so she can't, I will support her for the conservative ticket till hell freezes over in four years, if she runs.
It's going to be a long four years, a sloggingly long four years. God help us!
It is a sad time in a once great nation, and many are beginning to come to that realization.

OBAMA: Is our election of a president a popularity contest or prophetic precursor?
The world is being set up; set up to one day receive the biblical "man of lawlessness." In August I posted ...The CRIB is NOT saying anything about Obama being the Antichrist, far too many things must come first ... the Temple, the priesthood, the ten nation confederacy, and the return of the Jewish diaspora ... only be aware, be on the alert ... for the days are short.In that post I quoted 2 Thessalonians 2:3-5, where Scripture warns us of a day when he will be made known ... it's a certainty. The CRIB simply wants to warn its readers to be on the alert ... these are prophetic times.
Some generation will be alive when he is revealed; our generation is being used to set the stage for that revelation. The global community (this generation), because of its godlessness and weariness, is being hypnotized into acting as a precursor for his actual coming.

BAILOUT: My previous fears are becoming my present reality!
As the financial crisis slogs on we're now aware of a nagging subconscious thought: "These guys don't know what they were doing!"
Like Agent Gibbs on NCIS, my gut told me we were being milked! Dumb us! They were right, you know? But at least we're not alone ... or are we?... there’s clear evidence, reported with stunning casualness by CNBC, that Paulson & Co. threatened the big banks in some way to force them to “accept” Uncle Sam’s preferred equity investments: Even if they didn’t want it?Paulson is a democrat but you know who's going to get the blame? You've got it!Watch the video; the answer is “yes” — thereby ensuring that the government has a stake in all the major banks. [...]
So what did Paulson threaten to do if they said “no”? (Yes I know he wasn’t holding real guns. Come on now.) We don’t know, but whatever it is, the opening sections of the pork-loaded “bailout” bill with the made-up $850 billion price tag probably gave him the power to make the threats credible.This “bailout” was originally advertised as being targeted towards troubled loan situations, principally mortgages. Instead, Paulson, Bernanke, and Bush have turned it into a de facto, no good deed goes unpunished (i.e., responsible lending) tool for partial [bank] nationalization.
How many Congresspersons, or presidential candidates, thought this was what they were voting for, or that this is what the people wanted? Two weekends ago, I wrote that the whole saga shows that the whole saga proves that Washington doesn’t really care what we think.

I must admit to extreme frustration with my countrymen ... how can 50% of our adult population justify placing an untested, unvetted socialist in the Oval Office? SNOW: Tony was one of the really good guys! 1955 - 2008

I’m at the polar oppposite of Tony Snow politically, but if I had to discuss issues with someone, I’d rather do so with an intelligent guy like him than some obnoxious loudmouth like Michael Moore, even though I’d agree with the latter on most topics.

President George W. Bush is destined to go down as one of the greatest failures in American history. It will not be his enemies or critics who will assign him that legacy ... it will be his friends and supporters who do.

EMBEDDED CHRISTIES: Smart Young Christians in DC for Generations to Come!
Once in awhile the MSM gets one right ... Hanna Rosin's piece on Monica Goodling Christian education, in today's WaPo, and the influence evangelicals exert on WDC online is a good example.It took the conservative political movement 30 years to become a fixture in American politics, and it's taken evangelicals about the same. Like conservatives, evangelicals may remain chronically ambivalent, afflicted with a persecution complex despite their obvious successes. But they are embedded firmly enough into Washington to provide jobs for smart young Christians for generations to come.
