RICE IN CHINA - Of course, but in church?

The NY Times reports ...

The congregation at Gangwashi Protestant Church broke into applause for Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice on Sunday evening as she rose to leave after the Palm Sunday service.

What an encouragement this must have been for the members of this state-sponsored protestant church ... but the secret home churches must have heard about Secretary-of-State Rice's visit before the day was out as well. If I'm right, the encouragement for them was even greater.

Gangwashi is one of a handful of China's state-approved churches, allowed to operate in this officially atheistic country only if all elements - including hymns and Scripture - are cleared by the government.

No freedom to worship like we have here but the Lord works through hearts not brick and mortar.
