WOMEN NEED NOT APPLY - Were D. L. Moody's music men chauvinist pigs?

I collect stuff (My wife says, "It's not collecting.") ... some of my favorite stuff is Church history stuff.

This is a copy of Ira D. Sankey and George C. Stebbins "The Male Chorus," published by Biglow & Main, (c) 1888. Are these two greats of the faith really closet chauvinists?

The volume is subtitled "For use in Gospel Meetings, Christian Associations, and other Religious Services."

The Preface to the music says ...
We embrace in this work a fine selection of Gospel Hymns and Sacred Songs, arranged for Male Voices, especially adapted for Gospel Meetings, Christian Conventions, and other Religious Gatherings.

A choice collection of Special Songs for mixed voices, among some of the finest old songs ever written, useful in the home and social circles, completes the volume.

Ira D. Sankey
George C. Stebbins
No they're not chauvinists.

The inside front cover has this inscribed" "J. F. Swisher, Hamilton, January 25th 1897." Anyone related to this man or who is a recognized curator of a Christian Museum may discuss its ownership with me. (FCFS)
