The half-brother of Jesus said, "For the man who knows the right thing to do and does it not, to him it is sin." [James 4:17; my paraphrase]
Though James didn't say anything about what it means if he does it, the implication is clear, "To the man who does it, it is righteousness."

Dan Haverty is a 50 year-old assistant fire chief in Sacramento; he knew it was the right thing to give half of his healthy liver to 67 year-old William Weigand, Bishop of the Sacramento Diocese ... a man he barely knew.
This is the kind of life threatening sacrifice Jesus had in mind when he taught about living righteously. I guess those who support "the culture of death" would suggest the bishop was too old to waste a good liver on. Who knows?
In the same way Jesus and James were related by half, Weigand says he and Haverty are brothers.
