BLOGOSPHERIC ABSTRACT - Wanna be in a garage band?

Scott Sala of Slant Point provides this insight into the defining and refining of the Blogosphere ...

In a members-only discussion thread yesterday over at Media Bloggers people were debating the term blog - what defines one, etc. This is relevant to the growing process by which MB screens new applicants.

In a post I sent, I said "Blogs are the Garage Bands of Journalism." I've been thinking about this all day. Blogs are individual citizens giving it their best shot at this new medium, and some will make it, some will not. For most, the fun is in the music - the day by day cranking out of tunes on the keyboard. We are writing the songs of the new millenium. And yeah, lots of us suck. Really suck. But if anyone tries to tell you who the next blog to be signed will be, don't put your posts all in one basket. By year's end, I'm sure there will be plenty of surprises. Man this is fun.

I like that; I've always wanted to be in a garage band and now I am! And I'm having fun too!

Scott is right you know, the blogging community is a vast frontier and the horizon is only as wide as your vision is ... right now you don't have to wish upon a star, you can reach up and grab one!

There will be no "land grabs" here, homesteading is by grunt, content, and character! You're limited by your own limitations, natural and acquired!
