Regarding the recent spat of articles concerning a new Mormon apologetics book by Robert Millet (A Different Jesus), a two-fold obligation exists for Christians worldwide: first, not to take just any old bait that the devil offers but, second, not to forget the recent past, the welcomed change in the Armstrong cult -- The Worldwide Church of God.
Though I have many questions for and not a few criticisms of the "Evangelicals" involved in discussions with Mormon officials and scholars, I would rather hold my peace for the moment and not kill any advanced troops with "friendly-fire."
Do I believe Mormon theology is Christian theology? No! Do I believe some Mormons might be genuine believers? Yes! Do I believe they are confused and worshipping among idols? Yes! Do I believe they are being taught by and misled by wolves in sheep's clothing? Absolutely! Do I believe there is a chance of moving the LDS into mainstream Christianity in the same way some helped Armstrongism move? I don't know, but I hope so!
And finally, do I believe we should burn at the stake those who are trying to open doors to tens of thousands of lost souls by venturing into their darkness? Some think we should, and I'm not happy with their methodology, but no, I don't!
