OIL-FOR-FOOD APOLOGISTS ...

... have offered the following as the bright side to avarice and hubris, not to mention insensitivity to the poor and the helpless.

Iraq's oil-for-food programme was overwhelmed by "illicit, unethical, and corrupt behaviour" but did provide basic nutrition and health care for millions of Iraqis under Saddam Hussein's regime, a report will conclude today.

Two thoughts:
  1. I suppose bringing a woman her mail on the way to assualting her would be considered providing basic consideration and kindness and
  2. Saddam Hussein's regime already provided enough nutrition and health care for the nation's survival; so I don't know what it is the UN is claiming to have provided. Remember coalition forces found warehouses full of oil-for-food medical supplies, and I believe UN food.
