MUSIC: TODAY IS THE 17th ANNIVERSARY ...

... of the loss of one of musicdom's truely great performer-songwriters - ROY ORBISON.

Roy OrbisonOrbison was not about glitz or hype or the dark side of the music industry, he was pretty much about music for music's sake. He was not perfect man, but he was a master of his art and deserves his place in both the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
Orbison was one of the most influential American singer-songwriters and a pioneer of rock and roll whose recording career spanned more than four decades. By the mid-1960s, he was internationally recognized for his ballads of lost love, rhythmically advanced melodies, three octave vocal range, and characteristic dark sunglasses. Notable hits written and recorded by Orbison on Rolling Stone's list of 500 Greatest Songs of All Time include "Only The Lonely", "Oh, Pretty Woman", "In Dreams" and "Crying".
Orbison's music still touches a chord with me; he suffered a heart attack and died on December 6, 1988, at the age of 52.
