CIVIL WAR II - The Blues & The Reds

I've been collecting a few observations since the '04 Presidential Campaigns and elections.
First: we're in another Civil War of sorts; and, like the first one, there is nothing civil about it.
Second: the issues are similar in subtle ways but the roles are reversed along philosophical lines.
Third: the affects of the outcome, as in the first Civil War, will reach far beyond the collective mind of our nation, far into the future of this nation, and, to a large extent, touches on things not all of which are temporal.

Let me expand each of these ...

Not so amazingly, both sides continue the acidic vitriol of the campaign, the eschewing of the promised cooperation for the greater good, and the self-absorbed and self-serving attitudes so offensive to so many Americans on both sides.

Assuming, for the sake of my argument, that the main stream media, for the most part, is in the pocket of the blue states, it does appear they have a size advantage in disingenuousness and rancor. History and sociological studies suggest that losers tend to behave in this way.

With regard to role reversal, if my memory serves me well, the "blues" of the Civil War were the industrialized north, where progressives ruled the day, money and materialism was everything, and people with PhDs were proliferating. These "blues" were the winners of the first Civil War.

On the other hand, the land-based and faith-based economies of the gentile south were the "reds." These were the patriots of the day, these were people of traditions and family values, and these were the literalists of the faith of the day.

Patriots because in their minds and hearts the independent states of the union were the nations of America. Their zeal was a zeal for state independence because each state was an independent country. The people of the north were progressives in the true sense of the word, to h__l with traditions and values, they said. "We're in the midst of the Industrial Revolution; there is no time for discussions on traditions and values." They said.

And the churches of the north were going through the early stages of another revolution. German theologians were questioning the Bible, miracles, the existence of God, and much more. America was sending its best young preachers-to-be to Europe for seminary training. The graduates were coming home to the northern states (where the money and progress were) with mush for brains, hearts removed, and common sense abandoned.

In the light of these northern developments the southern believers rebelled ... they retrenched their beliefs and became hardened literalists, even justifying slavery in the process.

The outcome of all this will depend on the tenacity and energy of the victors. If the chipping away at their world-view continues and over time skews it along the lines of the loser's world-view the future is not appealing at all. Globalism, internationalism, capitulationalism, subversionism, socialism, atheism, humanism, intellectualism, and progressivism ... the primary components of the loser's world-view ... is inhospitable soil for the seeds of faith, family, fidelity, patriotism, and a strong military.

If the winners don’t have the tenacity and energy to persevere, the losers will (like mold) continue to claim small daily victories, in small ways, away from the light, and ultimately win the war of ideas ... which is truly a second Civil War.
