LA Times issues correction on Sponge Bob AND James Dobson
Patterico reported the details picked up by JunkYardBlog:
SpongeBob — An editorial Saturday about children’s literature and cartoons erroneously stated that James Dobson of Focus on the Family declared that SpongeBob SquarePants is a homosexual sponge. Instead, in a speech last month, Dobson criticized as pro-homosexual a tolerance video featuring SpongeBob, Big Bird and others.
Patterico notes that even the correction is half-baked, but it's better than nothing.
B. Preston (Junk Yard Blogger) offers a challenge:
I seem to recall that more than a few bloggers jumped on Dobson's Sponge Bob comment with both feet, egged on by the LA Times and its East Coast cousin, in a rare and now obviously misguided episode of trusting the legacy media's take on an issue. Now that the Times has corrected the record, will the blogosphere do the same?
I'm pleased I did not join in the dog pile. At the time, I knew Dr. Dobson was a man of integrity and strong character.
