The crisis deepened yesterday when a rebel leader announced an Islamic uprising in his border town.

Bakhtiyor Rakhimov said his forces controlled Korasuv, a town of 20,000 on the Kyrgyz border, and were ready to fight any government troops that came to crush his rebellion.

"We will be building an Islamic state here in accordance with the Koran," he said. "People are tired of slavery."

Now I don't know the details of the local Uzbek politics, but I do know that the world does not want a war with Islam, but the Muslims certainly seem intent on bringing a war to the world.
