The whole table is not germaine to my point, so only the latter third is shown. What are summarized are facts concerning racial make up of executions in the United States since 1976 ... the year we came to our senses and began doing the right thing.
After examining it, tell me if it's consistent with what you believed before you saw it? Prior to this were you told whites topped the charts for executions, victims, per capita death row population, and white/black - black/white, race to victim percentage? Or were you told blacks were dominant in every category?
Why did the Times publish this? Evidently in honor of North Carolina's lethal injection this past Friday of double murderer Kenneth Lee Boyd, who turned out to be the 1,000th execution in the U.S. since the reinstatement of capital punishment. Later the same day, the South united with the North when South Carolina followed her sister state and executed Shawn Paul Humphries, the 1,001st to die.
I for one am glad they did. These stats, if accurate, are indicative of the misinformation we've suffered with since the '60s.
