GOLD: Kingdom Blogging (10 April 2006)

A plethora of relevant and psuedo-relevant items from servants of the Kingdom of God.

APOLOGETICS / VARIOUS
Is Jesus God? Biblical Foundations
From time to time scholars suggest the divinity of Jesus is a later invention of the Church. Jesus, they claim, did not believe himself to be God, nor did he claim to be. His first followers, and the early church, likewise did not believe he was God but rather thought of him as a good teacher and moral example. The Da Vinci Code echoes such sentiments by declaring that “Jesus was viewed by His followers as a mortal prophet . . . a great and powerful man, but a man nonetheless. A mortal.” He was not considered to be God until the Council of Nicea in A.D. 325.
Brief well written apologetic for the divinity of Jesus! Dr. Andreas J. Kostenberger Professor of New Testament/Director of Ph.D./Th.M. is one of the SBC's very on theologians with much to say and is saying it well.

Gospel of Judas Hoax

I've been yawning at all the MSM hoopla over the Gospel of Judas but Donald Sensing over at One Hand Clapping woke me up with his "Judas gospel a yawner." A thoughtful, well-reasoned refutation of its importance.

BIBLE / BLOG
djchuang has a wonderful post on a new blog ministry of the American Bible Society ...
This is a different kind of blog, not just one personal voice like most, or a team of bloggers' stirring up a dialogue. This blog potentially could be an orchestra of voices from people who've been touched by the Bible. [...]

You're invited to post your candid feedback on how this can be a valuable contribution to the Kingdom of God.
Details are provided at D. J. Chaung's site.

BIBLE / IMPERATIVES
Back in mid-March Mark at Runalong with Pastor Mark began a series of the commandments of the bible; the series is titled "The Imperatives of Scripture" and begins here. There appear to be about a half dozen up in the series at this time. Worth a visit.

BLOGGING / SCRIPTURE
Coffee Swirls

I wanted to give you a little more than a mention on Doug McHone's excellent site but his servers are down.

Check these out when he's back up ...
  • Doug ties together contemporary church movements with the prophetic church in Hosea: Interpretation.
  • Doug takes a look at biblical eldership in Elders and Moses ... you'll have to wait to see how he uses Moses as a backdrop for the office.

BOOKS / LIBRARIES

At The A-Team Blog Roger wants to talk books because he has a lot of them ...

The Roger Overton Library
It's probably no secret to regular readers of The A-Team Blog that I love books. Since I think a fair number of you love books as well, here are a couple of tools I've used to help me keep track of my books [...]
If you're like Roger you may want to visit to see his two recommendations library programs to keep track of them.

The Minor Prophet Library

This looks very much like the Wikipedia concept of developing an interactive, online reference resource ... I may be wrong so go see what you think.
We've got a new feature for our Library here on TheMinorProphet. We're still working on it, but you are invited to click here and check out what we've done so far. Take a little test drive, and then let us know what you think.
It doesn't seem that complicated ...
Your vote on any article in the library will either increase or decrease its overall score...you'll be able to be have a part in giving added value to a fine library of commentaries on every verse in the Bible!

CHURCH / EMERGENT
Most of my regular readers know I not a big fan of program oriented ministries or fads so they wouldn't be surprised if they found out I'm not an emergent guy! But there's a New Zealander called the Tall Skinny Kiwi who is ... and I read him, most of the time.

In a recent post he presents some of an interview between Jordan Cooper (?) and Stephan Shields (?) which I really enjoyed. Especially this exchange ...
Jordon Cooper: A couple of decades from now, when we look back at this time of new thoughts and emerging forms of church, what do you think our regrets will be? What do you think we are still getting wrong?

Stephen Shields: We will regret missing the magnificence of God Himself and his Son Jesus. We will regret not having prayed more, not having cultivated our personal and communal relationships with God. We will be sad that we talked and read and learned more than we could possibly ever do. We will regret getting lost in the issues rather than getting lost in Him. We will believe that we spent too much time in the propositional and not enough time in the transpropositional.
Take a look at the whole thing and see what you think.

ENCOURAGEMENT / BIBLICAL
John Brown at Scotwise is a son-of-encouragement. John has two posts up recently that are relevant in any age and in any circumstance ... What is your vision? and Godly leadership.

GODBLOGGING / PORTAL
Best of the Godblogs

A periodic labor of love and common sense ...
Too many blogs? Too little time? Welcome to BGB: Your portal to the best of the Christian blogosphere.

GODBLOGGING / SBC
Steve McCoy at Missional Baptist Blog is upset about something ... talk about exclusivity in the Blogosphere. I quess he feels he can decide for all SBC bloggers what constitutes SBC blogging and if you don't agree ... well, leave one or the other! Sorry Steve life just doesn't work that way. Read his Seven Judgments from on High and see what you think!

GODBLOGGING / WEB HOSTING
djchaung.com has a post labeled shopping for web hosting up; this will be helpful for anyone considering a web host change. Chaung has done a lot of the research and provides some cogent recommendations. Loads of links.

MARRIAGE / DEFINITION OF
Joe at evangelical outpost gives us a rerun of a November 2004 classic called "Lincoln's Five-Legged Dog:The Case Against Redefining Marriage." Carter's logic and clear thinking are exhibited logically and clearly. (smile)

MISSIONS / MISSIONAL CHRISTIANS
Steve McCoy's post of a couple of weeks ago at Missional Baptist Blog now has more meaning in the light of "GODBLOGGING / SBC" (above).

I must be reading him wrong because he's not only recommending exclusivistic blogging there but here he seems to be recommending Christian isolationism, sort of a practical ghetto theology ... not from the world but from other Christians that don't agree with him. Hhhhhmmmm!!!!! Gotta be reading him wrong.

What would be really sad is if he's using himself as the template for all these recommendations.

PRO-LIFE / ABORTION

The Dawn Patrol
Dawn's post Magic Is Fun ... We're Dead links to a pro-life athiest which makes the visit worth the trip; the godless blogger's retort to a critic of his views is a blooming jewel.

SUBMISSION / SERMON
Charlie Wallace at From the Pulpit has what appears to be a sermon on James 4:1-10; if it isn't it sure reads like one ... one I could preach (would that be plagiarism?).
