PREACHING: Sound advice (from one who leaned on the thinking ...

... of others too much, too long, to my harm)!
The Rev. David Groves told church leaders in a seminar Thursday that preachers make one big mistake: They seek guidance from biblical commentary before studying the Bible itself.

"Do not rely on commentaries because they will stunt your growth," Groves said. Commentaries aren't to be altogether avoided but used as a reference only after you've studied the text.

Groves spoke to attendees at the National Baptist Sunday School and Baptist Training Union Congress in a seminar on "Expository Preaching."
Get into the word on your own, before you consult others ... God gave you a good mind, use it!
