TRINITY: Essential to the faith beyond question!

So much we believe today in our faith is tied to scholarship and earnest study it would be difficult to catelogue them all, but the doctrine of the Trinity is central to it all.
The doctrine of the Trinity is not an esoteric, abstract theory that is unimportant to practical Christianity, but instead is at the very heart of the Christian life, ... assert[s] in the latest edition of the Southern Baptist Journal of Theology.
"Perspectives on the Trinity" is the theme of the spring 2006 issue of the journal; editor Stephen J. Wellum insists the Trinity is the polestar of "a biblical understanding of God."
"A [sic] the heart of Scripture's presentation of our great and glorious God is the doctrine of the Trinity," Wellum writes in an editorial. "... [U]nderstanding God as triune is central to everything Scripture says about him, and it is what distinguishes him from all other conceptions of 'god.'"
I can't speak for others but I know this: apart from God in three persons, my prayers are so much self-talk; apart from a Triune Godhead, it would be impossible to understand Scripture; and apart from the Three-in-one, what chance would I have in my daily walk?
Some Bible scholars recently have used the Trinity to teach that many will be saved apart from explicit faith in Christ. In his essay, Wellum refutes this assertion and argues that the Trinity actually demonstrates just the opposite -- that salvation is found by faith in Christ alone.
The more I study church history and examine the contemporary visible image of the invisible Body of Christ, the more I'm convinced she has one foot nailed to the ground.
"And that is certainly an important point to emphasize in our pluralistic and postmodern world that is constantly attempting to challenge the exclusive claims of the gospel," [Wellum] writes.

The journal also includes a forum in which several scholars discuss the practical relevance of the Trinity. Participants include Southern Seminary President R. Albert Mohler Jr., D.A. Carson, Carl Trueman, Vern Sheridan Poythress and Greg Strand.
Good for you, SBTS; for continuing to stand for the faith once delivered to the saints and their equippers.
