EXORCISM: A Spiritual Wasteland!

The report by FoxNews on the Phoenix police breaking up an exorcism is timely for two reasons ...

First, because of last week's National Geographic
report on some historical research by professor Peter Dendle of Pennsylvania State University ...
The Norman Invasion of A.D. 1066 may have brought more to England than just a new dynasty of kings.

The watershed year in English history was followed by ever increasing reports of people being possessed by the devil, according to one U.S. expert.

The two developments were closely linked ... .
Limited space evidently prevented the author of this NGM piece from reminding his readers that the 11th Century had huge Christian and historical events taking place at the same time.

A number of which would have mitigated reports of demon possession during the period; for example, the growing availability of Scripture for the English masses, the "Great Schism," and the commencement of the early Crusades.

See Dr. Richard Scott Nokes thoughtful criticisms from another point of view here (Nokes links to Scribal Terror).

Second,
to remind Christians that what follows is not remotely biblical ...
Officers responding to a report of an exorcism on a young girl found her grandfather choking her and used stun guns to subdue the man, who later died, authorities said Sunday.
... .

Officers arrived at the house Saturday and entered when they heard screaming coming from a bedroom, Tranter said.

A bed had been pushed up against the door; the officers pushed it open a few inches and saw Marquez choking his bloodied granddaughter, who was crying in pain and gasping, Tranter said.

A bloody, naked 19-year-old woman who police later determined to be Marquez's daughter and the girl's mother was in the room, chanting "something that was religious in nature," Tranter said.
Jesus mentions prayer and fasting as two methodologies, and this verse has some baggage attending it.

The Lord demonstrated Christian power through the laying on of hands, or direct demon confrontation ... but nowhere do we find Jesus or the Apostles naked and covered with the blood of the possessed. Especially not the blood of a three-year-old ... NOWHERE!

I'd like to exercise the yahoo's who taught these people about exorcism. Nitwit's!
